Swing Gate Infant School and Nursery - an International School

You will know that an integral part of the Swing Gate ethos is our approach to Global and sustainable education.  I am really pleased to say that this has been recognised and we have attained the full international award from the British Council.

From the British Council to Swing Gate School;

I am delighted to inform you that your school has been successful in gaining the International School Award.

Congratulations on working so hard to co-ordinate such an impressive range of work.

This is a great achievement and one that deserves celebrating and sharing widely!

I hope that the scope of your excellent international activities will continue to develop and benefit the school community; your support, commitment, creativity and innovative international work is greatly appreciated. “

International and Global activities

At Swing Gate, we believe we are working towards becoming Global Citizens. We have a commitment to care:

  • We care for ourselves
  • For each other (across cultures, distances and generations)
  • And for the environment ( far and near)

Look at some of the activities we have enjoyed

  • We have now gained the full International School Award.
  • We were very excited about our link with Ombo Primary school in Kenya. We spent time getting to know each other - sharing our work, thoughts and photos. We found out about each other's crops, what we grow and why, where our food comes from and how many food miles we use .This proved to be very exciting and great fun!
  • We have supported "Send a friend to school" . This really helped us to understand how other children are educated. We invited our local MP to school and asked him lots of questions about The Big Read and the Millennium Goals
  • We have looked at how children live and work in other countries, built shelters and looked at "food in a shop window" during world War II, comparing it to a shop window now.
  • We are took part in "Transition towns" in Berkhamsted along with other local schools
